The New Seven Wonders of the World

If you haven't heard, you can vote for the "New Seven Wonders of the World".

The historical Seven Wonders of the Ancient World were named by the Greeks in the 2nd Century BC. They were:

The Great Pyramid of Giza, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Temple of Artemus at Ephesus, the Statue of Zeus at Olympia, the Mausoleum of Maussollos at Halicarnassus, the Collosus of Rhodes, and the Ishtar Gate (later substituted for the Lighthouse of Alexandria)

The Greek word for "Wonders" was "must-sees" and the list was kind of a handbook for Hellenic world travelers. So keeping that in mind: far-flung, awe-inspiring architecture rather than historical importance...I'll cast my vote for the New Seven Wonders.

1) The Great Wall of China

Hands down one of our most amazing creations. You can see it unaided from space!

2) The Palace Tombs of Petra

As featured in Indian Jones and the Last Crusade. In the middle of the desert, in the bottom of a canyon, carved from solid rock. Cool.

3) The Roman Colloseum

A stunning example of the lengths we go through for entertainment. They could flood it and have naval battles!

4) Machu Pichu

The terraforming is even more impressive than the architecture. Though I'm hesitant to name a Wonder that is in such disrepair...

5) Stonehenge

50-ton stones dragged from hundreds of miles away, stacked using Stone Age technology.

6) Easter Island

For some of the same reasons as Stonehenge...I also didn't know they're 25 meters high (85 feet).

7) Potala Palace

I know it's not on the list, so it can't actually be voted for. But, really, I can't vote for anything built after 1500 and the buildings are difficult to compare one against another. The Potala Palace on the other hand is more of a city than a building. And built 12,000+ feet up...well...that should be worth bonus points.

Here's what I vote for (in no particular order):

1)Neuschwanstein Castle - Cause it's an amazing wonder I don't live there

2)Machu Picchu
3)Christ Redeemer
4)Angkor
5)The Roman Colosseum
6)Statues of Easter Island
7)The Great Wall of China - I want to walk the length. I'd probably be the first Native American to do it.... I'd be in the guiness book of world records. Not for walking the wall but being the first Native American to save that much money.
