The Dixie Chicks

The most surprising thing about the Grammy Awards was the Dixie Chicks winning five awards, including Album of the Year. Well, first was their winning Best Country Performance by a Duo or a Group. Every country fan in the world went apoplectic at that, I'm sure. They're not COUNTRY, people!

The thing is, I can't help but wonder if their cleaning up had anything to do with the entertainment industry welcoming them back in the fold after their political controversy.

Don't get me wrong. Their album is good (at least, the songs I've heard). And I love the song "Not Ready to Make Nice" ... especially now that I know what it's about.

It's a shame they were treated how they were for speaking their mind. Death threats and fans turning against them. Especially when so much of the US has come to feel the same thing about Bush and it's suddenly popular to be anti-war. If the turnout of the last election is the real reason the Grammy Foundation decided to throw the Dixie Chicks a bone...well...that's crap.

I typically don't enjoy celebrities getting involved in political causes; but there are exceptions. Bono's doing some really good things for instance. I just wish he would take off his sunglasses. And Bill and Melinda Gates are celebrities in their own right, and incredible philanthropists.

Anyway. Just my two cents.

I’m not ready to make nice
I’m not ready to back down
I’m still mad as hell and I don’t have time to go 'round and 'round and 'round
It’s too late to make it right
I probably wouldn’t if I could
‘Cause I’m mad as hell
Can’t bring myself to do what it is you think I should

Bono wears glasses because he has sort of eye disorder.

He takes them off on stage as a touching tribute to his father who when he was alive was always ribbing Bono to remove them.
