Joey

pla·gia·rize ( P ) Pronunciation Key (plj-rz)v. pla·gia·rized, pla·gia·riz·ing, pla·gia·riz·es v. tr.
2. To appropriate for use as one's own passages or ideas from (another).

I'm a plagiarist. In old Latin, that meant kidnapper. But I'm using it in the modern sense. A discussion on Dan's blog has forced me to come clean about something. Dan invented a comic back in junior high called "The Misadventures of Joey". His hero, Joey, was this little guy with three hairs on his head. Joey was (I assume) a pen-and-ink representation of himself, only even more caustic and cynical than polite society allowed Dan to be.

Dan and I wrote a Choose Your Own Adventure story about Joey called Warehouse-o'-Doom. The story had nothing to do with a warehouse...and two choices always available were:

a) Eat a tamale
b) Shoot yourself

Dan has since incorporated Joey as his logo on his blog (you'll have to check it out in the top left and bottom right of his blog...since my browser had a hard time capturing them)

I have also incorporated Joey. I've altered him just a tad to where the similarity is less pronounced...but not enough that Dan couldn't sue me someday. I typically draw it as a little icon after my signature:

Chrissa then plagiarized my plagiarization and draws after her name:

We even have a plagiarization for our dog, Champ:

So we are one big thieving family. All trying to be more like Dan. So it's kind of cool...when you think about it. What is it: imitation is the most sincere form of flattery?

If anyone's earned the use of the Joey logo--other than me, of course--it's Jared. He contributed to the Joey mythos more than anybody else I know. And if Warehouse o' Doom is ever completed, it will stand as the magnum opus of the Joey saga. People, it was great, great stuff.

Joey as my alter-ego? That's both funny and scary! He was certainly more violent than polite society legally allowed me to be.

Incidentally, I love Chrissa's modification, and especially Champ's--though I think his owes more to Charles M. Schulz than me.

I've always liked both of them. I also like champs - but I enjoy his pawprint stamp most, I think.
